January 2012
Since Tropical Storm Lee ravaged our region in September, The Bridge of the Penn-York Valley Churches has been providing countless thousands of dollars worth of clothing, housewares, and furniture to flood survivors. This service continues, and it’s “Clothes Closet” and “Furniture Warehouse” are just about overflowing with a wide selection of items.
Flood survivors from ANY community may come to these facilities and select from the inventory at absolutely no cost. Please bring evidence of having been flooded (i.e., FEMA #).
The Clothes Closet is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons from noon to 2; Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 until 8:30; and Saturday mornings from 10 to noon. It is located at the North Waverly Chapel on Route 34 in Waverly NY. Call 565-9342 (when open) for more information.
The Furniture Warehouse is open Wednesday mornings from 9 until noon, and Saturdays from 10 until 1. It is located next to Hagen Pet Foods on Broad Street Extension in Waverly. Call Charlie at (570) 886-1057 for more information or to donate furniture.
Since 1986, The Bridge has been “bridging the gap” for families in Athens, Sayre, and Waverly. We continue to receive numerous requests for assistance from flood survivors and have found that, particularly in light of the severe cutback in state assistance, many households simply do not have the resources to heat their homes this winter. The Bridge hopes to help keep the heat on for everyone this winter. For more information or to make a donation, please see our web site at “TheValleyBridge.org”; or, Monday thru Thursday from 9 to 12:30, call us at (570) 888-8826. Donations also may be mailed to P.O. Box 202, Sayre PA 18840.
