In recent days, the many generous souls in our community have turned out in force to assist in whatever way they can… some to volunteer, some to donate, some to pray. The officers, ministry leaders, and volunteers of the Bridge have been overwhelmed in more ways than one by this outpouring.
In the immediate aftermath of the flood, relief centers were set up in each community. One by one they have closed. Now the only one remaining open is at the Athens Township Volunteer Fire Company. Many of you had delivered good usable items to a relief center and they were piled high.
We wanted you to know that all of the items that had been dropped off at the various relief centers around the Valley have now, thanks to many dedicated volunteers, been brought to the Bridge. This made a significant addition to our inventory of good clothing/ bedding/ kitchenware and will enable us to provide for the needs of many families for months to come. (Thank you thank you thank you!)
Although we were pressed for space prior to the disaster, several storage facilities have since been opened up to us. The Bridge is now prepared to receive donations of any and all like-new items that our neighbors are likely to need as they get re-established. We receive these items at no cost and we distribute them the same way- free of charge to anyone in need, no questions asked.
Bring small items directly to the Clothes Closet (at the North Waverly Chapel) whenever we are open. For large items, please call first, those items go to a different storage location and we do provide a pick up service.
We are pleased to announce new expanded hours for our Clothes Closet. Come see us from noon to 3 and 6:30 to 8:30, Monday thru Friday, and Saturdays from 9 to 12. And… WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!
The Bridge is the non-profit “hands of Jesus” outreach of 36 Christian churches in the Penn York valley. We have no paid staff and provide assistance without regard to race or religion.
